What type of massage do you need?

Aether Wellness offers an array of massage and energy work services. You may always rely on the expertise and intuition of your massage therapist to provide the best treatment for your needs, or you can request a specific type of massage. Below are some of the most common offerings we provide.

Sports + Deep Tissue Massage

This is for detailed muscle work, great for anyone with an active lifestyle or someone recovering from an injury. It’s also great for undoing repetitive patterns in the body like extensive computer work, picking up children, or movement from sports or other activities.

In a deep tissue session you will receive detailed work on specific muscles and their trigger points and deep stretching to undo any stress your muscles have endured.

Reiki is a healing technique that uses gentle touch to channel universal energy to balance the body’s energy flow and clears energetic blockages. It can bring peace and promotes the body’s innate ability to heal itself—physically, emotionally, and spiritually.

Receiving Reiki feels gentle, calm, relaxing, and meditative; it is the perfect way to deeply connect with yourself. Reiki can be practiced in-person through gentle physical touch or over a distance through co-meditation.

Reiki Energy Work

Swedish Relaxation Massage

Swedish relaxation massage uses soothing, flowing strokes to relieve tension, reduce stress, and enhance overall wellness by relaxing your nervous system. This type of massage is best for the people who need to unwind and give themselves a break from their current stressors. Those who want to promote relaxation over detailed muscle work should choose a Swedish relaxation massage.

Prenatal Massage

Carrying and growing a baby is hard work, and pregnant people deserve the chance to unwind as well! Prenatal massage can focus on relaxation or deep muscle work, but only uses techniques that are safe for your body and your baby’s development at whatever stage of your pregnancy. With multiple Aether massage therapists certified in prenatal massage, you’re in good hands here.

Looking for something else?

Red Light Therapy therapy uses low-level red wavelengths to stimulate cell regeneration and reduce inflammation. It’s for anti-aging, pain relief, and faster healing of wounds or injuries.

In addition to our massage specialties we also offer numerous other add-on services which include:

Hot stone are placed on key points of the body for relaxation, ease tension, and increased blood flow and circulation.

Cupping creates suction that increases blood flow to promote faster healing, increased range of motion, and relieve muscle tension.

Dry brushing exfoliates the skin using a stiff-bristled brush and unique techniques to remove dead skin cells, stimulate circulation, and improve lymphatic drainage.

Radiance Facial Treatment uses homemade rose water, a rose quartz gua sha and cooling stones to target facial muscles, drain lymphatic fluid, and hydrate the skin. It alleviates inflammation and decreases tension that causes headaches or jaw pain.

Glow Up Facial Treatment uses a glow serum using a jade roller and cooling stones to decrease tension that may cause headaches or jaw pain while also rejuvenating the skin for a younger glow.

Common questions about massage

  • Read the descriptions of each type of massage here to see what aligns best with your needs. Most sessions and massage therapists will use a combination of techniques from multiple styles of bodywork to meet your needs. If you have questions about what would be best for you, please text or call Alyssa at (612) 806-2615 or send a message on Instagram.

  • For a Shiatsu- or Reiki-only session, wear comfortable clothing that you can move around in. Both are practiced over clothing, so comfort is key! Layers can also be helpful, as your body temperature naturally drops when you are at rest.

For any other session, it’s still nice to have comfortable clothing that is easy to change in and out of so that you can start and end your session with ease!

  • The short answer: Usually every 2 to 6 weeks, but it truly depends!

Most often, we recommend getting bodywork monthly but it truly depends on how active you are, how you use your body, what your goals are with bodywork, and your massage therapist's recommendation based on your treatment plan. It can be anywhere from multiple times a week to every other month.

  • Drink twice the amount of water you usually drink in the multiple hours leading up to your bodywork! (Don’t worry if you have to use the restroom during your session, we have robes!)

If you work out before your session, you might feel a little more sore when receiving a massage. Some people like that, and others do not, so plan accordingly.

Be sure to review the "What should I wear?" FAQ above so you're most comfortable!

Pro tip for strategic hair-washers: Massage can cause oily hair, so either plan your wash day accordingly or tell your massage therapist and plan a comfortable way to tie it back!

  • Number 1 piece of advice: Stay hydrated! Massage can release the toxins that have been built up over time from your muscles and into your bloodstream. This can cause soreness and muscle fatigue. The more water you drink, the more you will be able to flush those toxins out, and maximize the benefits of your massage!

Move your body after your massage as well! The Aether Wellness Virtual Studio is a great place for post-massage movement and content. Otherwise try light stretching, easy yoga, walks, and other simple movements to keep your muscles and body loose to maximize the bodywork you just received. Your newfound mobility will only stick around if you keep using it!

Other things that help include: a hot bath with epsom salts, eating nourishing snacks and meals, and getting a good night sleep. Essentially, tap into your best wellness habits to maximize the effects.

After a massage, avoid a big workout as your muscles are super loose and can’t properly protect themselves or your joints. Try not to schedule a massage right before a flight, long road trip, or any instance where you’ll be sitting for a prolonged amount of time after bodywork.

When it doubt, ask your massage therapist! We’re here to help.
